A Teacher's Influence
The other day I had someone tell me about a time when I taught him something 30 years ago that was very meaningful to him. He remembered it clearly in detail. Then yesterday someone told me that they made the biggest decision of their life and decided NOT to do…
WHEN you eat.
What you eat is important, but so is WHEN you eat. I find that if I eat a big calorie-rich meal close to bedtime, I do not sleep well. I am hot as my body is working hard to process all that stuff! When I go to bed a little…
What do you really want in your life?
To play any game you have to start. To win you have to keep going. To make your dreams come true you have to play the long game. On what goals are you taking action on and playing the long game?
Results that actually help people
"Life tends to reward results-producing actions. You don't build a great reputation by talking about what you are going to do - you do it by helping people." - Joe Polish Your reputation lives in the minds of others. What do they say about you?
Life is a one lap race!
You have one go-around. You will never be this age again, or any younger. Make the most of it!
The color of truth is gray
There's scientific truth - often absolute. But then there is truth with people - social truth; that's different. People have different experiences from where they stand, thier culture, their education, what they went through, what they saw and how they processed it all as only they could. Trying to make…
Advice is context-dependent, questions are not.
Yesterday we said, "Advice is context-dependent". Good advice for some people may not be good advice for others. Questions are not context-dependent. So here's a great question for anyone, and one that will help you recognize good advice for you - What are you optimizing for? Some people may be…
Energizing goals keep the shrink away.
Advice is context-dependent. There are different points of view that could be true for one person and not for another. Here's one- Today we have as I have heard, record levels of depression while the amount of free time people have is at an all-time high. It takes fewer hours…
Social enemies
It has always been the tactic of our social enemies to make us feel we are not enough and do not have enough. There are some well-meaning friends, coaches and teachers that encourage us to live up to our potential, and that is different. But for social enemies who operate…

LJ,
Both my parents were teachers an life-long educators. There must be something about teaching in our DNA, because I feel like I inherited their passion ad hopefully, some of their gifts. Helping others grow is how we earn eternity!
I am grateful for those who have taught me. My dad and my mom from the beginning, many great teachers from K-12 and college, many business mentors and wise friends. I’ve been blessed with many.
How true, being an effective teacher is so important. It is probably one of the easiest but most overlooked things in life. Simply slow down, and care about everything you do, the efficient teaching will follow.
Amen!
Larry, I want to thank you for all you’ve taught me! With business and life. Through all the experiences I’ve had with you, I’ve learned so much! I’ve been developing my own business the past 2 years and couldn’t have done that without your teachings. I am truly grateful for the opportunity and time I had to work for you. Thank you!
Miss ya buddy!
Ken
Teachers can make such a difference in our life. My mom was one of the best teachers I ever had, and she taught at my high school, too – her students still talk about what a difference she made for them! Take the time to share your knowledge with others and you will bring out the best in them.
