The person who is fully committed to what they are doing, lives in a very different world than the person who doesn’t – and it’s a much better world.
Are you fully committed?
I’m all in.
Go, Harry!

Your day isn’t from the time you wake up to the next time you wake up. It’s from the time you go to bed to the next time you go to bed.
Get to bed early. Most people set an alarm for getting up. If they go to bed too late they short their sleep. Instead, set an alarm for going to sleep. This way you don’t shorten your sleep time.
With a good night’s sleep – you’ll have a better attitude, good energy, problems will bother you less, you will be more creative, you will have better health, and you will find that you eat less when you are well rested.
How many hours speel do you get on an average night?
How many do you want to get?
What time should you go to bed?
Sleep, the next frontier! Thank you again Larry for your insights about this important 1/3 of our lives!
GREAT post, Larry! Loved, “Your day isn’t from the time you wake up to the next time you wake up. It’s from the time you go to bed to the next time you go to bed.” So true!!!
Thanks for all the great wisdom you share! Hope you have a Great Weekend of shared experiences with Family and Friends!!
Like the idea of setting the alarm to sleep rather than to wake up…
Lay out some clothes for the next day before you go to bed. Your organizational skills are already performing for the next day’s approach and attitude.
Looks like you didn’t get enough speel last night!
On an average night, I sleep about 7 hours. I’d like to get 7-9 hours. I’ve heard that for health, the ideal time to go to bed is 10 PM.

My Definition of Success
A continuous achievement of moral and ethical goals.
If not this definition, then the Drug dealer that sells more drugs every day is a success. The thief who steals more expensive items without getting caught is a success. We have to define success.

Why I step on the scale each day
This is what I do – I step on the scale each morning and see what it says. If it goes over 184, I adjust what I am eating, how much, and when.
If I travel I often don’t eat well. When I get back, I am back on the scale, and making adjustments so I come in between 181 and 184.
Does one day make a difference if I go out to eat and have appetizers and dessert? Yes. One day makes a difference. I can gain 2-3 pounds in a day!
I know where I want to be and I am committed to it, and knowing where I actually am each day helps me make adjustments so I can never get too far away from my target.
That’s what works for me.
What works for you?
Happy Birthday Larry!
I to step on the scale every day, and I use intermittent fasting to help control my weight! Happy birthday!!
Happy birthday Larry!! Also your Basement Systems of Indiana team is the best! I drink lots of coffee which helps me stay slim… (ha!) Seriously, fasting periodically and working outdoors helps me stay slim!

Happy Birthday!
Thanks for the inspiration Larry.
Happy Birthday Larry!
You may not believe this but I have the same exact routine. Slight difference; when I hit one eighty I know I have to make adjustments! (& yes, one day can make a difference – not to mention when the battery on the scale dies & 3 weeks go by before I replace it…)
Best of Birthday Weekends to you! Enjoy! 🎂
Happy Birthday Larry!!! May you continue to have good health and post your Think Daily. 🙂
Happy Birthday, Larry!!! I hope the race went well!
Happy Birthday, Larry! I stick to a 5-pound range, as taught by my mother who had an overweight parent. So much easier to lose 5 pounds than 20! Hope you saved some calories for cake!

Happy Birthday Larry! May you experience many more!
To add to stepping on the scale, I find throwing in an extra 20-30 min of cardio on my stationery bike helps burn off that delicious dessert I might indulge in.
Enjoy your day!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Larry!! You look great, and I do the same thing with the scale.
Have a great birthday!
Happy Birthday Larry, I hope you have a fabulous day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LARRY!!!! It’s a privilege to be a part of your team!
Happy Birthday Larry! Have an amazing day today!
Happy Birthday, Larry! 59 is the new 49, and that especially applies to you because you take good care of yourself. As for the scale, I get on it every day, too. My wife is critical of that and says I get on the scale too often. But much like you, I want to know if the pounds are sneaking on. I was 187 a few days ago and knew I was going in the wrong direction. I made some adjustments and 185 this morning. Ideally, I would love to target 180. Thanks for always inspiring your readers and congrats on your most recent mx race out west and visiting your son. Have a great day! Braaap!!!!!
Happy Birthday. Thanks for getting me back on think daily. Hope Vegas to Reno went good.probably see you down south
Happy birthday Larry! I hope you have a wonderful day
All God’s Blessings on your birthday.☘️🎂☘️
Happy Birthday Larry! Hope you have a great day!! On the days I go out, I tend to work out a little harder on cardio. I also juice 🥤 fruits and vegetables in the morning and afternoon to make room for a nice dinner and switch it up all the time. To good health & prosperity!
Larry, Happy Birthday! A good dietary tweak is to stop eating at 7 PM. Due to our body’s circadian rhythms, we don’t process food as efficiently after 7 PM. We can gain more weight than if we ate the same exact food earlier in the day.
Happy Birthday Thanks for all you do!!
Happy birthday Larry ,yesterday was my 60th birthday. Last week we rode at Dirtdaze 2023 . I was a NETRA rider back in the 80’s rode alot in CT

I do the same drill with the scale each day, helps me stay in my comfort range.
Happy Birthday!!! Enjoy!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I HOPE YOU HAVE THE BEST DAY!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday Larry!! I step on the scale daily also. It all began 10 months ago, when I was not happy with how I was feeling, and looking at 59 years old. I stopped eating carbs, walked daily and exercised when it was raining/snowing. I lost 35 lbs, and have more energy than ever! My husband complements me constantly, and that also keeps me on track. Thank you for your blog on The case against sugar (carbs) 9/19/2022. That got the ball rolling!
Happy Birthday Larry! I hope your day is filled with lasting memories!
PS. I step on the scale and it says “Hey, only one person at a time!!”
Happy 59th Larry!
You wear it well
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday Larry! Have fun celebrating!
Btw, I’ve been reading your daily blog posts for years. You continue to be a source of inspiration, motivation, knowledge, and enlightenment for me, personally and professionally. I feel like I’m on a journey with you… I’m grateful for all you do to help me stay focused on what’s truly important. Thanks and keep ’em coming!
First, Happy Birthday, Larry! As for today’s question, I try not to be scale-obsessed. My marker is my jeans. I wear them every day. I won’t buy a larger size. When they get uncomfortably tight, it’s a constant reminder to reduce my calorie intake.
The same works for me! It was a bit of a shocker when my 32″ waist pants became tight at 50-51 years old. I step on the scale often, keep fit, watch what I eat, and adjust when needed. Happy birthday! You are an inspiration!
Same thin works for me. We also have the same target zone !
Happy birthday Lawrence,
I do the same thing with the scale. But not the day after my birthday (haha) enjoy!
Happy birthday, I pray the blessings of God on your life
Happy belated birthday!
I do the very same thing with regards to weighing in but not daily. I can usually “feel” if I have overeaten and gotten too heavy. I’ll then weigh in and adjust diet until I’m back down. To me it’s a simple meter to tell if something isn’t quite right.
Happy Birthday, Larry!
Happy Birthday from another Leo just reaching the big 4-0!!!
Happy Birthday! I like your philosophy on the scale. Every day matters! If one never gains 5 lbs – they can never gain more than that.
Happy Birthday, Larry!!!
Hope you had a happy birthday Larry! And many more!
Happy Birthday!! I met you in person on your 50th at convention 2013. Damn the time flies! So glad we teamed up. You are a great inspiration to me.

Being present
A lot of present moments are ruined by the mental and emotional tyranny of the past or the future.
Just be present and experience this moment and do your best.
You got this.
“No longer forward nor behind I look in hope or fear; But, grateful, take the good I find, the best of now and here.” – John Greenleaf Whittier
Fantastic post!! Thanks, Larry!
Good one!
I really like this piece of advice. It’s a great reminder. I began practicing being present a year ago after hearing some advice like this. Whether we are watching a great movie, listening to a lecture, or typing an email, our minds wander back into the troubles & anxieties of yesterday. When we shut those doors temporarily to be fully present in the moment, it’s amazing the positive attitude that results, the attention to detail, the comprehension of that lecture on a higher level ever experienced before, and the shear enjoyment of our tasks & life’s that ensue.
Troubles, worries, & stressors lose their power over our “now,” our day, our week, & quickly dissipate to a level of just a quick task. Our minds are so powerful & we do not know to what extent. How will we ever know if they are bogged down with garbage instead of being freed into the moment to be thoughtful, attentive, creative, problem-solving, ever PRESENT a trait of being out BEST selves that allows for enjoyment & progress? This is one that takes a bit of practice & permission to ourselves that it’s perfectly ok to “be where our feet are.” My sister reminded me to be where my feet were multiple times during moments of high stress & anxiety. When I have into her advice, a calm came over me that allowed me the greatest perspective I had in along while. Excellent advice! Thank you for this reminder as I haven’t been looking down at my feet lately.

Hi Larry,
Thanks for all the great blogs that I have read (everyone of them) over the last 8 years. This one with the riding video is especially helpful right now as I just broke my collar bone last Tuesday riding in the woods of Illinois. I am suppose to have surgery tomorrow. I am guessing not enough people take the time to comment but I want you to know haw much we appreciate everything you do.
