You are not independent

While we like to think we are self-sufficient and independent, it’s not hard to see that we are very very far from it.  To experience our standard of living takes the work of millions, maybe billions of people.

Look around you right now.  Everything you see uses materials that are great inventions; the creativity and labors of countless minds, all available to us when we call on it.  

This wasn’t planned.  No one mind or small group of them could or does have the power or capacity to design and bring forth such a great world.  It was the effort of billions of minds over many millennia to better themselves by winning over customers by bringing better products and services to them.

This is capitalism.  We are all participants and beneficiaries.  

If we are to continue to progress we must maintain the environment that capitalism flowers best in – individual freedom, rule of law, free trade (across borders), low taxes and regulation, sound money that holds it’s value, and free speech.

Let’s leave an even better world to our children’s children.

Break free from the old, to create the new

When we are small children, everything is new.  Then we start to create our identity, our self-concept and self-worth, chose a career path and have deep relationships.  Things happen to us – maybe good at first, and then they go bad.  Maybe there is some trauma.  

We have all these thoughts and identities in our head, and eventually, there is no room for anything else.  We’re on a treadmill, re-living it all each day.

When we can let go of the old, that is when everything can be created anew.

How to make more $$$

I recently assembled a team of guys to do a project at a property for 4-6 weeks.  Some of the guys I knew, and some I didn’t.  Halfway through the project, we dismissed several guys.  Towards the end, we dismissed two more.  Then we hired two guys permanently.

What made the difference?  Diligence, hard work, and good communication.  The guys who were let go would take most opportunities to stand around when they weren’t being watched.   The guys who were hired permanently were always moving and looking for results and asking “What’s next?”.

It’s pretty simple.  Do more than you are paid for, and you will get more opportunities and eventually be paid for what you do.  There is no other way.  If you do less than you are paid for or only what you are paid for, you will not get a chance to do more and be paid more.

A caring benevolent government

I don’t comment on politics very much.  I’m not associated with one side or the other.

The COVID19 crisis.  The government shut us all down and then eased the sting by giving us big unemployment checks and forgivable loans for businesses.  Aren’t they so nice?

I wouldn’t want to be a politician in this case – it’s a lose-lose scenario.  I’m not saying it was easy.  But let me give you another way to look at it.  

The money they gave out, an astonishing 2.5 trillion and counting, not to mention the tax receipt losses at the federal and state level, didn’t come from them.  It came from us.  More specifically, it will come from your kids.

Let’s say the parents were having a rough time financially due to the crisis, and politicians walked into schoolrooms and passed the hat around, forcing kids to give IOU’s to them.  They then took the money they raised and gave it out to the parents.

That’s what happened.

The government can not give out to some of us what they do not confiscate from some of us.  Politicians are not saviors or benevolent caretakers.  They are switches that operate in a game of who pays and who gets and when and why.

The results?  So far we are 25ish trillion (with a T!) in debt on the federal level, plus all the state debt.  They are not doing a very good job.

Believing in what is real

What is real to you is real because you believe in it.

Our outer limitations are real if we manifest them internally first. 

In the same way, these limitations are released.

Setting goals for what you think is probable.

We had some experiences and the world responded to us.  Based on those early experiences we drew a box around ourselves and said “That’s who I am”.  We’ve been acting that way ever since.

But is it true?

Now we set goals based on what we think is probable for us, instead of what is possible, because we don’t believe in what is really possible – because of the “box”; the identity we accepted as real.

But that is all phony.  It’s only real for us because we bought in.  We believed it. 

The reality is the world was just giving us feedback – when you do this, they like it this much – you get these results.  But it was so early in the game when we weren’t as good, and didn’t know much – or at least as much as others around us at the time and place.

If we give up our story of who we are, and stop going for what we think is probable, we can go for what we really want instead.

Suspend doubt

If you aren’t going to believe you can do it, then at least don’t believe you can’t.

You are unqualified to say what you can and can not do.

If you want it bad enough, you can.

If someone told you that you are playing too small and are more able and powerful than you are showing, would you argue with them?

I am telling you that right now.

If you argue, that’s not very smart.  If you don’t, then you should do some serious thinking about how you are showing up each day and what you are going for.
