When hiring, don’t say “He’ll do I guess”, or “I just need someone right now, I think she might do”.
Get to know them through a variety of meetings – by phone, in person interviews, meals, and written questionnaires. Don’t let them fool you – get to know who they really are.
Then if it’s not “Hell yeah!”, it’s a no. Keep looking.
You are so right….but this lesson is so easy to forget when you are under pressure to fill an important vacancy.
Fire quickly – hire slowly. It is one of the most important jobs of a business leader.
This is possibly the area where I have failed consistently. Despite our best efforts we get caught again. We must do better – slow down.
