Most peoples definition of intelligence – “If you agree with me you are intelligent. if you don’t, you’re an idiot.”
If we take this attitude, we are only looking for validation of how we think. But to get different results, we have to be a different thinker, who then takes different action.
Should we hang around people who have different ideas and views on some things than we have now?
I like to join groups that make me stretch a bit, feel slightly uncomfortable when I join. Examples over the years would include: State Board of Realtors; Rotary; Society of Facilities Managers; Building Operators & Maintenance Association. The first time I went, I always went with an existing member, not so scary, the next time, alone – pretty scary. Now I have staff that are assigned to these meetings and I rarely if ever go but I made valuable connections, learned lots of “perspective” viewpoints and made friends for life.
My statements above pertain to business but its the same in our personal lives. Just substitute church, social groups and friends for the associations.
Great thoughts Larry, thank you!
