Protect your credibility

When you first find yourself leading the team, communication is the most important thing.  People will hear what you say and listen.

But after a while, once they know who you are – what you REALLY mean, and how you follow through – they will hear what you say through your credibility (or lack thereof) filter.  Once you loose it, it’s hard to come back.  And if you keep messing up by not being true with your word, you may as well move to another city and try again with people who don’t know you.
