I borrowed the title for today’s post from a book by the same name that I listened to.
I know a businessperson who just didn’t want to take advice. My feeling is that he wanted to “be his own man”, and that taking advice would be a sign of weakness.
Well, years passed, and after being unable to build a great team, years of poor execution, and many bad decisions, he finally threw in the towel. I know that his people felt that he was mostly interested in his success and less interested in theirs.
To be a great leader, you have to care about the success of your team and they have to know it by their observations.
When you lead others you need to work very hard on yourself, learning all the skills necessary and becoming the kind of person others will follow because of your credibility and caring.
From there, it’s about other people.
