In my company, we have lots of departments, divisions, and locations and we need lots of leaders.
The more leaders the better.
We prepare for expansion and growth by identifying talented people and preparing and equipping them to lead.
Let them sit in on leadership discussions. Train them a lot. Talk to and with them. Let them experience different functions and departments in the company. Have people of different ages coming up.
We can grow as fast as we develop good leaders.
When we need them, they have been there and ready!
Leaders create leaders, not followers… Although you have to first be a good follower (student of the leader) to learn to lead, followers will always be there; following is the natural path of least resistance.
Leaders inherently look for and recognize leadership in others, and then create opportunities to develop, strengthen, test, and mature those traits until that person is helping to lead as well.
A person isn’t born a leader – but they may be born with traits and attributes that, when developed and exercised, make them a leader when developed and tested.
Great post, Larry – Thanks!
I like it! The best leaders create and develop other leaders!!
