I am getting better at this

David K. Bryan

Over the years I have ordered two cases of “The Highest Calling”. I give them to struggling contractors that I come into contact with. I know it has helped many of them realize that running a construction business does not have to suck the life out of you. In fact, just the opposite. If done well it can create an amazing life. It is pretty cool to see the light bulb come on after they read/listen to it!

I’ve always considered IT as a balance of technical acumen and the ability to build meaningful relationships with those I serve. A touch of empathy does wonders for understanding their struggle, which in turn helps me form a solution. My purpose in an organization is one of support, of both personnel and equipment – but knowing how to communicate effectively with the personnel is the only way to identify and fix the equipment. Having a bad relationship with someone can only make my job harder, less enjoyable, and render me less effective as a technician. I have no misgivings in advertising that I’m in the relationship business, rather, I wear it proudly.
Thank you, Larry.
