Nobody shows up in this world knowing what they need to succeed and master themselves. We have to learn from other people. Fortunately, others have put all they know in a single book for a few bucks. We don’t have to learn it all ourselves from firsthand experience – that would take too long and be very costly.
What book or books were most impactful to you in your career?
I have read so many…I used to love listening to Tom Peters and Brian Tracy books. If you are going through a trying time internally or externally I highly recommend The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer. It helped me dramatically when I needed it most!

Think and grow Rich
Atlas Shrugged
I just finished Man’s Search For Meaning. If there was ever a book to make mandatory in school, that would be the one. It has rocked my outlook on life in the best way.
Favorite business book is The Game of Numbers by Nick Murray. It is lesser-known, but full of common sense about what it takes to succeed in selling.
The Bible
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
Sell or Be Sold / Grant Cardone
Anything from Jim Rohn – Life changer!
The fountainhead
I read Wild at Heart years ago and it remains a go to for me. It helped fix the wounedness inside. I have watched it help so many men overcome marriage problems, addiction, depression, etc. I have personally walked several men through it as well as my son.

The highest calling is a real good book for general contractors

Dale Carnegie- How to stop worrying and start living. It changed my life.
How to win friends and influence people. It is dated but makes you rethink the way you treat people.

Recently finished Double Your Profit In 6 Months Or Less by Bob Fifer. It is packed with great general business info!
The Highest Calling is definitely my favorite book. I listen to it a couple times a year. A great story and I learned a ton about owning a business.
Love Works by Joel Manby. I believe it is a misconception that any one book is what you should solely base your business on…That being said, I think that they all can have a small piece to help influence or direct decisions you make. This book relates in a lot of ways to how we run our business. Valuing your team, but more than that, making sure they know there value.
Born to Run, Natural Born Heroes, What Doesn’t Kill Us, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, Outlive, The Second Law, Structures, The Rational Optimist, Predictably Irrational, More From Less, The Evolution of Cooperation, The Richest Man in Babylon, Wealth and Poverty, Knowledge and Power, Stealing Fire, Born to Win, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, How Innovation Works
Phycology of Achievement by Brian Tracey was the first personal development audio I listened to. Made me focus on what I could accomplish and I have never looked back. As Brian would say, I have the equivalent of several Master’s degree from all the books I have listened to in my 30 minute commute to work.
Peter J. Daniels grew up poor, color-blind, illiterate, and bankrupt three times yet is known today as the ‘Christian billionaire’, and his autobiography “Living On the Edge” was most inspiring and quite impactful to me, right up there beside “The Highest Calling”. (Literally, beside each other on my bookshelf.)
Larry – Read or listen to my new book, The Daily Climb and let me know what you think. On Amazon, Audible and Apple, THX !
The book that impacted my career the most is “Leadership and Self-Deception” by The Arbinger Institute. It ingnighted my journey to find and to value self-awareness. When I finally achieved a modicum of self-awareness, it changed everything.
The one business and personal growth book was a CD left on everyone’s chair at the Basement Systems convention…I don’t remember the year. Zig Ziglar’s Biscuits, Fleas, and Pump Handles is a simple fun listen that opened my eyes to more is possible. It may not even be a book though it gets credit for me switching my reading to books that are helpful to growth. Since then I’ve consumed many great books via reading and listening as a result of listening to that one. Thanks Larry!

If you haven’t read Highest Calling, it is excellent in both hard copy and audio. Great job Larry and thanks for sharing your wisdom!
I truly remember my favorite motivational books that I read early on in my journey to better myself. “Eat That Frog” by Brian Tracy and “Who Moved My Cheese” by Spencer Johnson were early favorites that really helped me change my thinking and I remember things to this day from those books. I like books with kind of a “story” to them, which is why “Highest Calling” is also a favorite. Can’t remember that author’s name…. 🙂
