Leaders are readers

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Whether you read books or just listen to them, to get the privilege of leading others you have to educate yourself on many subjects.

How many books do you read or listen to a month on average?

It’s about two to three for me.  When I used to drive a lot, it was more.

How many for you?

When we read, we learn. When we learn, we grow, When we grow, we are happy.

Audible is such a powerful resource. Before audible, books on CD and tapes before that. Using the captive time in the car for growth is essential. I get about 2 a month as well and have been reading/listening that way since the very beginning.

Learning from other people that have been, there and done that, is priceless.

Personally I am a audio learner, so audio books are definitely my thing.

I typically will listen to a book A Week … most times that includes listening to the same book twice.

I know that might seem odd, but for me it works. I find myself on the first listen I will write down key things in my journal and review them on paper.
Then I will listen to the whole book again and see what else it gets out of me.

Some of the classics like
Think and Grow Rich, how to win friends and influence people, the power of positive thinking, as a man thinketh etc are in my library and I will review (even if just a chapter or two) monthly as well

Learn, Adjust, Try again… Keep Growing!

I don’t read nearly that many books but I am certainly trying to do better. I do however read the Bible almost every day. Lot’s of wisdom in there!

Two

Gary Pelletier

2 per month average.
Larry I came in for your think Daly live in the fall of 2017 and from your suggestion I listened to 170 books.

Brandon Carr

I tend to read a book, become obsessed with it, reread it, make highlights, listen to the audiobook, and most importantly, try to implement what I’ve learned into my life. While I might read less books, hopefully I’m getting more out of the ones I do.

A few per month, sometimes its one a week. Currently over half way on your Iron Sharpens Iron book and loving it! Aside from the great story itself, your book is beautifully made and the pictures are clear and help drive the story home!
I re-read Atomic Habits recently and will also re-read The Power of One More this year in addition to some new ones.

I just finished “Never Split the Difference” by Chris Voss this morning. Treehouse Team Leads regularly listen to and review audio books together! Brandon Carr picked this one for us! (hey Brandon!)

Not going to say anything that hasn’t been said. Lots of great comments. Jenna if you see this Chris Voss has a wonderful Master Class called Tactical Empathy. He gives you 3 super simple negotiation skills that have helped me tremendously. The class has payed for itself in $10,000’s in sales.

I read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill EVERY day. There is so much gold in that one book. It has created more millionaires and billionaires than any other book. I recommend buying a hard copy of the book and leaving it in the bathroom. Then, leave your phone somewhere else while doing your “bathroom business.” The book and this process will change your year and your life.

Tanner Janesky

6-7 books per month. Listening to books while driving and exercising is the key. Zero extra time needed.

Ryan Frey

1-2, but I wish I had time for more. I particularly love audible when driving.

Jason Waldek

At least 2 per month, I have some great recommended reads for you if you like.
