You can't do everything

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

People who believe in themselves, like entrepreneurs, believe they can do anything – or at least most things they set their mind to.  While that may be true, this idea gets twisted into something that becomes a trap.

“I can do anything” becomes “I can do everything”.

This is not true.  You can’t do everything.  You have to choose.

You can do a LOT with the help of a team, but you have to focus them.  They are no different than you are – they can’t do everything either.

Doing more is great.  Doing more is fun if you can pull it off.  But there is a point when doing more becomes overload, frustration, and relative failure.

When you find that place you have to heed it.

Get your fulfillment by doing what you already do in a better, cooler, more impactful way, instead of trying to do more different things.

I used to have a boss who believed that I could do anything. Problem is, because of that, he also believed that I could do everything – and often then expected me to.
Note that I said that “I used to have a boss…” We both still work for the same company, I just chose for him not to be my boss anymore.
