“Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work.” – Chuck Close
Sometimes I get inspired. Sometimes I can bring inspiration on, or some inspiration, by reading or watching the right thing. And sometimes I wake up inspired.
But I can’t count on any of it.
I want to get great work (new work, creative work,) done often; and I can’t wait to be inspired to do so.
So, you just get to it, inspired or not. That’s discipline.
And once you find yourself getting into “the world of” doing that thing, without distraction, the faculties needed to do it will come alive.
Inspiration is great when it comes. In the meantime – get to it!
Excellent advice! I like to plan my days ahead of time. That way I know the most important thing(s) to accomplish for the day. Hit those things first and no question about what to start on when I start my day.
I recently learned about the Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC). When examined in high functioning individuals such as CEO’s and Athletes it is much bigger than the general population. The function of this portion of the brain pertains to decision making, learning and motivation. The reason it is bigger in higher performing individuals is because these individuals have trained themselves to do unpleasant tasks such as strenuous learning and exercise. The ACC will actually grow when we perform these unpleasant tasks. Thus, improving our motivation and learning capabilities. Conversely it shrinks when we shy away from unpleasant tasks. The ACC is significantly smaller in some portions of the population like individuals struggling with obesity or addiction. Motivation can actually be trained and built! I found this fascinating.
Good Morning back at you! Have a great INSPIRED day!
Good Morning as well!
Thanks for the last great year of inspiration in2023! Let’s have a great year?!
