Hire Tough, Manage Easy

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

If you don’t take the time to get to know your candidate and lower your standards for hiring because you need to fill a seat and are in a hurry, you will spend far more time and money managing your hiring mistakes.

Interview your candidates as many times as you can.  Ask hard questions.  Research them.  Go out to a meal with them.  Have other people you trust talk with them to make sure you aren’t missing something.  This doesn’t take time, it saves time – lots and lots of time.

This is another great reminder of often overlooked business practices that really pay to be consciously aware of in the moment!
In some cases, you only have a short time to interact with the candidate, so these principles MUST be forefront in your mind at that time.
I may have the opportunity to be in on some hiring interviews soon, and I will definitely refer back to this when the time comes.
Thanks, Larry!
