People, including you and me, are wired such that we care more about not losing than we do about winning. We disproportionately care more about losses than gains.
We are more worried about losing our place in line than finding no line at all.
We are more worried about losing a little game than winning a bigger one.
So, we play not to lose in the game we are in, rather than moving to a different game that will be much better for us.
How are you doing (have you done) that?
Agree, I play not to loose.
Thinking of a “a different game that will be much better for us”, but what if it won’t?
I know my stuff, and I’d better excel in what I do, than try a “better game” and burn. Good to great!
I aim to win by reducing losses. Slowly and steadily
I agree with your comments. I have been laid off from my company a couple times and I played not to lose and tried to get back in, both times successfully. In hindsight, I should have played to win someplace else and started a new chapter. But, sometimes you are playing during a pandemic or recession, and your brain goes to survival mode.
