An experiment was done with elderly people in nursing homes. Half of them were told they had control over their schedules, and the other half were told that their schedules would be set for them. The group who had control lived longer.

My wife’s grandmother tried to escape out of a nursing home a few times. I think there is definitely some truth to this.
