What you eat is important, but so is WHEN you eat.
I find that if I eat a big calorie-rich meal close to bedtime, I do not sleep well.
I am hot as my body is working hard to process all that stuff!
When I go to bed a little bit hungry, I sleep best.
How about you? Tell me with the orange button!
I agree ! I try to eat my last meal close to 7pm around ten I could eat but a. Feel the same (hot ) and I can’t sleep as you described . I try not to eat again till 11am and my head feels a lot clearer and I work better in the morning and lunch at 11 am gives me the push I need to get threw the rest of the day .
So right with that. Ate late last night around 9:30 we finished and was awake 3am . I knew it was my body working hard to digest.
I’ve been doing intermittent fasting for a few years now. Will turn 57 this year. I’ve never felt better. Well, besides old man, aches and pains.Lol
I agree with the timing of eating but I also know it can be very different for certain people. I also know it changes over time as our body chemistry changes. I’m in my early 40’s and just now feel like I have a fairly good handle on what and how to eat so that I don’t disrupt sleep, don’t get tired while working, don’t gain weight and have plenty of energy. Eating too much, too little, wrong things and at wrong times will all have an effect on our health and performance, and it’s not the same for everyone. For example, my wife and I do not have the same eating habits but we have the same health goals and are meeting them!
Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. Heard that in 1980 and have found that it works well. Don’t always follow that but agree with you for sure on eating a lot late isn’t good.
I don’t have a regular schedule for eating. I only eat when my body tells me that I am hungry. I live my life listening to my body. If my body tells me I am tired, I rest. If it tells me to get up and move, I move. For me, it is being in touch with my inner self.
We eat dinner between 5:30 and 6. Little to no snacking after that.. I plan the weeks dinners on Sunday and make sure I have all the ingredients so we’re not trying to decide what to cook when we get home.
I eat a small to medium breakfast around 7 to 7:30 most mornings and no lunch. Diner before 7:pm but large salad and plenty of protein. It works for me being 59 and not burning the calories i did when i was younger.
Up at 5am, No breakfast. Small snack around 9am if my workout from the previous day was hard. 11:30 lunch (salad), 5:30 gym 7:30 dinner (usually around 6-700 cal). Dinner is my largest meal, but that does not mean it is large. Asleep by 10pm. When I lost weight, I sleep better. I also quit snoring. haha
Hello Larry,
Back in 2019 my wife and i took a trip to Italy. One of the interesting things was that the restaurants don’t open until 7:30 PM. Initially we thought that was strange but as the trip went by, i decided that i think they have it right. We would typically get to the restaurant at 7:30-7:45, eat an incredible meal (every meal was fantastic). What became apparent to me was that when you sat down to eat at that time of the evening, your work day was over. you sat down, relaxed, had a glass of vino, a fantastic meal, and then walked for a bit and most likely ate a gelato. a 15 minute walk after eating was invigorating and that stuffed feeling was gone. When you hit the pillow, you slept like a baby. It was very eye opening for me. I think we have it wrong and Europeans have it right. Also, there was no late night snack cravings. Personally, if i eat at 5:00 it is almost certain that i am eating again later…. Its a battle!!
Our bodies operate on circadian rhythms and don’t process food as efficiently after 7 PM, so that’s when I stop eating. I used to eat until I was full, but I never got full… so that was a bad plan.
No food 2 hours before bed and no electronics 1 hour before bed is what works best for me.
I find eating 5-6 mini meals a day helps with my energy and mood. I am grateful for Larry Janesky and his team at Contractor Nation. Could not have asked for a better opportunity!!
