When you are feeling down or anxious and think things are bad – they may be. But just because you feel things are bad doesn’t mean they are.
When you feel this way, you should not make any decisions and go to bed. You have to sleep before you make any decisions about it. You can’t let emotions run your business.
Look at the big picture in the morning. Do what you can to include all the facts and see all sides of the story. Then accept it. Then do what you can and should to make things better.
You are human. You are emotional.
Know this, and learn to separate emotions from your leadership.
Hi Larry, still here and reading every day. Thanks Doug
Today I realized, even though it was not a full moon last week things got crazy, I thought about this very subject “separating emotions from my leadership.” Because of one thing that has never happened before, and here is what I came up with. There are times when talks will just not go well and that is ok! Maybe I should have rebuked in private I said to myself. Most people just don’t like to confront or be confronted. But, there are times we have to stand up to behavior and it might not be taken well, right? So, maybe I should rebuke (express sharp disapproval or criticism of someone because of their behavior or actions) in private without Judging. But maybe I should sharpen my iron and do it with a little more compassion in my voice as a leader and with more question so they can see it themselves. I was feeling anxious and thinking things were bad. I did go to sleep and working to make things better today. It worked!! Thank you, Larry.

Thanks for the shout out! I did this very thing just last week. I had a much clearer head the next day and I know I made a much better decision. I appreciate the work you put into Think Daily, it’s almost like I get to start my day with a quick (1-sided) conversation with you. Thank you!!
