What is your Creed?

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Most of us don’t have a creed written out, (otherwise known as a “Credo”) which is a summary belief statement.

But if you had a statement of your core beliefs/mission, what would it say?  Trying to write it out can be an interesting exercise.

Here are a few examples.  This first one is from Kenneth Clark, 1903-1983

“I believe that order is better than chaos, creation is better than destruction.  I prefer gentleness to violence, forgiveness to vendetta.  On the whole, I think that knowledge is preferable to ignorance, and I am sure that human sympathy is more valuable than ideology.

I believe that in spite of the recent triumphs of science, men haven’t changed much in the last two thousand years; and in consequence, we must still try to learn from history.

I believe in courtesy, the ritual by which we avoid hurting other people’s feelings by satisfying our own egos.  And it think we should remember we are part of a great whole, which for convenience we call nature.  All living things are our brothers and sisters.  Above all, I believe in the God given genius of certain individuals, and I value a society that makes their existence possible.”

We’ll look at a few more in the coming days.

This is great. Never knew anyone who had s personal Creed other than the church’s Creed.

Very nice Larry. Creeds are are sort of a covenant you make with yourself and others. Something that defines the why.

Everything needs to start with why. Don’t you agree

I can’t believe how much this matches my own beliefs! I can’t wait to see other ones. I know they at times will seem opposing in views as it is with our world.

Mike Baker

Looking forward to hearing some more on this. Thanks, Larry.

That was a great credo! If more of us lived by that credo, we would all be better for it!

Mike

Very good!!
