Sweat more in training, bleed less in war

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

When I show up at the Baja 1000 starting line at 4 am on Nov 17, either I am prepared, or I am not.  There isn’t much I can do about it then.  When I show up in front of a School of Entrepreneurship class, either I am prepared, or I am not.  When I show up to run my business and make a call, either I have done my homework, or not.

This is why top performers spend most of their time preparing – whatever that looks like in the given endeavor.

Have you prepared yourself to win?

I love it Larry! That is very close to an old samurai saying …..Bleed in the dojo, laugh on the battlefield.

Earl Nightingale said that success is where preparation meets opportunity. I understood it conceptually from the beginning. However it is now after years of training (and enjoying the benefits of “compound interest” in working diligently to build upon what I have learned over time) that I truly understand what he was talking about. He is spot on, and it makes me only want to sweat that much more in my preparation.

There is an old saying we used to say: “I’d rather be a warrior in the garden than a gardener in the war.” -meaning, be prepared for battle, live for peace.
