Do you or your employee ever get the feeling that if you asked a question you would be labeled ignorant? That if you asked for help you would be seen as incompetent? That if you questioned the leader or the strategy or the status quo that you’d be seen as a troublemaker?
Feeling afraid of what others on your team think of you has you and others playing it safe; laying low and not engaging. By not asking questions, you can’t ask the follow-up questions, you won’t learn, and you won’t gain value and you won’t be able to add much value.
Environments where all voices matter, are heard and encouraged result in the most teamwork, creativity, and forward motion.
Is your workplace a competition among teammates or is it inclusive and encourage the voices of all?
As an owner I look down on people who do not ask questions when there caught red handed trying to do something they are not qualified for and then come up with excuses. Asked many questions as possible and you will succeed and have the ability to answer them when someone asked you.
As someone in my first year with Baker’s, I have found that the ability to ask questions without repercussions is refreshing and very helpful to my continued education and development. I have experienced the opposite in other work situations; the difference is amazing and the positive corporate culture is refreshing.
I like them to try on their own and make decisions..but to do this, they need to be around for awhile to see how leadership likes it’s done. If they have a better way…explore and implement ! Give them credit!
