You don’t. You can’t change other people.
However, you can recognize that we all have good and bad performance in us. Even you. You can set up an environment where people want to give their best.
Train them. Recognize them. Communicate with them so they are “in the know.” Ask for their opinions and ideas and advice. Have fun at work. Show you care. Set up an environment of respect and “psychological safety” where people are not afraid of others at work.
You can’t change others, but you can lead them so they want to bring their better natures to the team.
Leading and inspiring others to want to be the best they can be, aligned with the goals of the team, is one of the highest forms of leadership and those who can do that have the ability to transform their enterprise or team.
