We all have them. Even us leaders. We find them by exceeding them.
“I’ve had enough”, “I’m burned out”, “I’m hurt, torn, shot, empty, etc.”
There’s no shame in finding the boundaries by blowing through the guardrail once in a while. But what marks a leader who is effective for the long-term, is his or her ability to restore their emotional balance.
Know when you need to stop and take care of you. Without a healthy you, the rest doesn’t matter.
Definitely agree with you that it is essential to make time for yourself and recharge the batteries periodically. The only way to know your real limit is to exceed it (or try to), but there is no reason to do that repeatedly – especially when you know where it is and you are approaching it.
great comment. too often we leader think that we have to be invincible when in fact it is the opposite…. we need to be ok with our vulnerabilities a learn to understand and take care of oursleves
