A leader’s primary job is team builder. Add one virtuous competent person to the team and the whole team gets a little better as a whole. Add another and it gets better still. There is a compound effect that happens when virtuous competent people are surrounded by virtuous competent people – everyone gets better.
What about your team?
Introverts need quiet and a work station where they can focus. Some good sales people are introverts. They are capable of connecting with customers and clients and provide and exceptional service. To make up for the chatter and distractions throughout the day they end up staying late or going to the office extra early to be able to focus.
Some hiring managers need quiet and a private area where they can focus on calls and interviewing candidates and collect referrals. When the weather allows strolling outside in front of the building is a great way to concentrate and connect with people on the other line but this method is weather dependent.
Some general managers have a hard time facing and coaching each individual sales employee who feels that they are not appreciated, valued or understood. People want to be acknowledged and want to feel understood, part of a team where their work makes a difference. If an organization can not generate this kind of atmosphere within it is much harder to generate the same atmosphere with customers and clients.
Clients want exceptional service or a quick refund in case things get a bit messed up. Cutting a refund check and putting it in the daily mail only takes a few minutes. If internal processes are set up to allow this type of customer service only once a week it delays and brings down the value of overall service.
We do what we must to be productive and make the best of our surroundings.
