Weak or bad team players bring down the performance, motivation, standards, and engagement of the entire team in an outsized proportion to their numbers.

SO MANY managers don’t understand addition by subtraction – and they don’t understand how that bad influence, along with the failure to act on it, tears down the team first, and the organization afterwards as the negative energy permeates and progresses in the environment…
Thinking about it – as we know – when you leave a job, you actually leave the boss. The biggest reason I’ve been dissatisfied with any supervisor – mine or others’ – is the failure to either recognize or act on the negative influence on the team.

I work in automotive and in the office there is me and a service writer. In my role I assist him, help him stay on point and focused and consequently his numbers are up significantly the last two years. Our boss hires a new HR/office manager who sits next to the service writer and talks to him all day long because she is bored. Service writers numbers are down, boss complains, but can’t see any root causes, just shouts at service writer to get numbers up.
