If a leader loses the listening or credibility of those he leads, he has no ability to positively influence anymore.
People will avoid, tolerate, and ignore him.
Then, it’s over.
Team members know that great leaders are clear, consistent, fair, and humble, and are there for the team, and the goals at the same time.
Great, succinct post, Larry!
As John Maxwell said decades ago, “Leadership is influence.”
That’s it – short and to the point; but you can meditate on that wisdom for days…
If you’re not influencing, you’re not leading – it’s about who would follow your lead even if they didn’t have to.
Thanks for the reminder, Larry!
We had a company meeting last month and the leader said to everyone “John Doe gave his notice and he is leaving us.” Make no mistake, John Doe got along great with his coworkers. He didn’t leave “us”. He left the leader for more fair compensation, bonus and appreciation.
