There are a lot of qualities you will need to be someone who crushes goals routinely.
Confidence will determine a lot. When you are confident you will try things, and others will gravitate to you in any situation. You will get opportunities less confident people don’t. And hey – confidence is sexy. Probably because confident people smile more, and smiling is attractive.
How do you build confidence? Preparation will build confidence.
So will trying things, even if small at first. Small wins give you the confidence to try something a little bigger. That leads to more confidence. Then you try even bigger seemingly more difficult things until they are easy for you, and your confidence grows. With every achievement, no matter how small, your confidence grows, propelling you to reach even greater heights.
Eventually, you feel confident in almost any situation.
“Preparation will build confidence.” I love this!
The feeling of preparedness comes from getting up early or staying up late and doing your homework, studying the room and the people in it before speaking, comfort and agility in addressing the topic due to fluency in the subject matter, kindness to and acceptance of others because you know you’ve prepared to be in the moment…
There’s just so much to – and so many advantages to – being prepared; whether it be in business, personal relationships, competition, whatever. The ease in your demeanor that comes with being prepared is what I think a lot of people see as confidence. You have ‘presence’ – you ‘own the room’ so to speak.
I’m sure sure that the confidence wrought from being prepared has opened more doors for folks than raw knowledge ever has… It’s once you’re in that door that your knowledge and expertise take over and others become confident in YOU.
I also believe that your ‘imperative why’ drives your preparedness, but that’s a topic for another day…
GREAT post, Larry! You’re the BEST!!
