Numbers are a primary feedback loop

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Do you know your numbers?

Do you study your financials and know what each number represents?

Do you even get accurate Income Statements (aka P&L statements) and Balance Sheets on a timely basis each month?

Can you make a connection between actions and behaviors and the numbers?

Can you then adjust those actions and behaviors to produce better numbers?

I feel like it’s my responsibility to know exactly where my numbers are at all times. All to often I’ll talk to someone who has no idea what their numbers are, or how to go about finding them. I can’t understand how you can possibly run a company and not know where you stand with metrics. My first order of business every morning is to study my numbers so that if I’m engaged in a conversation pertaining to them, I know them. You can’t make a plan to change unless you know what to change, that starts with knowing your numbers.

Got to know the numbers. Thankfully I’ve got them consistently and timely- and always accompanied by a thorough review. Can’t imagine not being able to do that.
