Etymologically the word “sin” means to essentially “miss the mark”, as an archer who misses their target.
If you miss, take another shot!

That is an excellent way to think of the word “sin”. I am religious and so have always heard the word used in a religious sense but your definition is exactly true and is a great way to think about it! We shouldn’t see sin as some “evil” thing (although there are those people out there) but rather “sin” is the result of us not doing our very best. Like you said, if you miss, take another shot. Eventually we will become an excellent “marksman” and rarely ever “sin”!
