People talk about “raising the roof” – having better “best days”. But progress toward your most important meaningful goals takes many many days.
How about days when we don’t feel it, have a setback or when things don’t go our way?
“Raising the basement” and having better bad days can make as much of a difference as having better best days. When it’s not a great day, don’t give up on the whole day – see what you can make of it.
Higher highs are great, but see if you can have higher lows.
One day is simply a part of a long continuous journey. Tomorrow begins where today leaves off.
Good morning Larry,
This is a Great post!
Consistent and patient determination towards worthy goals and not “losing our sh*t” during our darkest hours takes a lot of self control, intention, and grace. When we have a bad day do we own it? Sometimes we’ve messed up, sometimes it’s another person that we were really depending on. Bad days test our grit, this is when we are most tempted to quit! We experience pain, frustration, anger, shame, hurt, tears, humiliation, blows to our pride, loss… No one wants these days! Nevertheless we ALL have them. There are tests of our resolve, our ability to forgive ourselves and others, to “let it go”. It tests our kindness, our perseverance, and our ability to learn from mistakes and adversity. These are the times to pray to God instead of running our mouths. To think! And then press on with faith, and purpose, believing in and becoming the person I am DETERMINED and destined with God’s help to be. With the right perspective even “bad days” are opportunities raise the bar!
Never have a bad day, but it’s okay to have tough moments.
Good morning! We couldn’t agree more! Making the most of every day, even when things don’t go as planned is so important. You have to aim for higher lows and keep pushing towards your goals, because tomorrow is another chance to make progress!
