When I was a kid, say about 12 years old, somehow I became a big Styx fan. That’s a band if you don’t know. They had this album at the time called “The Grand Illusion”. I just loved it. On the album was a song called “Fooling Yourself”.
I think the number one thing holding people back is the story and beliefs we have about ourselves. We lose faith in ourselves and our potential. We think we can’t do it. We come to believe in limitations. We play small because of our own thinking.
The deceptions we tell others are nothing compared to the deceptions we tell ourselves.
We need to call BS on ourselves.
How are you fooling yourself?
I too was a big fan of Styx. Still think their music is good. Fooling yourself has great lyrics and is also great musically with the chord progressions and multi metered tempos. The name of the album “Grand Illusion” was an interesting choice as well. Interpreted on many levels.
Loved that band and the song. Extremely motivational. Used to sing it at the top of my lungs while driving.
Fantastic message.
This post made me smile… That album was my very first album ever, and I won it at our local summer fair. I loved the album, wore it out playing it, and loved that song! Thanks for your blog… My husband, and now my sons follow you. Really great stuff.
I always thought that was a Kansas song :0 I learn all kinds of things from Think Daily
Love that album!! Still have it on vinyl.
I love the photo. I can feel his open heart!
“We are the stories that we tell ourselves.”
This post sounds a lot like Brene Brown! Be your authentic self and be courageous! Stop hiding behind a mask of inadequacy. You can do this!! Now…get started!
