Just tell the truth.
There are no perfect people. Everyone else knows that, whether they admit it or not.
They may take shots at you if they know the truth, but it will be a burden off of you and your critics will go away soon after.
Relieve yourself and move forward.
I have found that if I own up to a mistake that I or my crew before the customer or other party knows about it, that it gains their respect.
