People have their fairness antennas up all the time.
If they think a leader is playing favorites for any reason, they will feel they have no chance to be judged fairly on their own merits – and they will either perform poorly in response or leave.
A leader must be fair.

We should always try to be fair. In raising my children, being fair has always been among my highest of priorities. I like the idea of our superiors being fair but it does sound a little idealistic & it rarely is the case. It calls to mind an old saying, “life’s not fair; God’s not fair; why should I be fair?!” ?
