Would you rather have fairness or equality?

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Inequality is not the same as unfairness.

Some people think that fairness means equality – everybody receives the same.  Others think it means proportionality – everybody receives in proportion to their contributions.

People prefer fair inequality over unfair equality.

How about you?

Mike Mitchell

I am a strong proponent of equality of opportunity. That doesn’t guarantee equality of result.

Brandon Carr

Fair inequality.

The question to myself has always been: “Is it fair to all concerned”. Quote from Rotary International

Desiree Leader

Dave, I am also a Rotarian!
I also used to be a special educator. One of the ways we used to describe our student’s accomodations as to being ‘fair’ was that if we give one person in the room CPR, do we need to give it to others, to be fair? No, because only one person in the room actually needs CPR and the others don’t.

Mele Orendorf

Equality is a process that ensures everyone has the same opportunity for achievement. Fairness assures that no one individual has an advantage over someone else for any reason. Equity refers to everyone having the same outcome, irrespective of any other circumstances. We are a nation of equality and fairness.
