A healthy attitude towards failure

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Yesterday I said that what you think of yourself is the most important thing when it comes to who you are and how you perform.  But when we fail, stumble, lose, or struggle, what do we let that do to our self-image?

Do we say “I am not good at this” or “I am not good at this YET”?

Do we say “Don’t do that again, it’s embarrassing to look bad so play small” or “I need more practice and I will get better”?

Do we say “I’m not good at this so I am a loser”, or “I am not good at everything but some things I am great at and getting better!”?

Nobody is good at everything.  We’re not supposed to be.  And even things we will be good at, we start out as amateurs.

Be sure that you separate what happens to you and the results you get, from you.  You are potential, and getting better all the time.

Good Luck Larry!

It’s a confidence booster to me when I fail at first and then follow up with success! Also, there have been times when the final outcome has had way better results than the first outcome could’ve ever had. Be safe in the race brother! Have fun and take care of that knee. It was good to hear the excitement in your voice the other day regarding the race!

Good luck with the race!

Hey Michael Daconto – glad he is in Indy!

Good luck at Baja!

Very important. I’m getting better about my positive self-talk in response to bad outcomes. I’m still catching myself and correcting negative talk, but that is progress in the right direction. Its only a matter of time before my reaction to a bad outcome is to build myself up, not beat myself down.

We’re all just trying to find the best way through life :]

Best of luck with the race, we’ll be cheering you on from home!

Good luck on the race Larry! Hope you bionic knee holds up well!
