Nobody cares about most things except themselves. Even though you want someone to do something, they will only do it if you help them get what they want.
Help others get what they want.
You don’t ever win in life by being a taker.

I’ve always been a giver and a pleaser, my whole life to everyone in my life. I’ve walked a lot of miles in my journey and I’ve come to the point where I am somewhat selective on who I give to even with family. A Giver is going to give and a Taker is going to take. And I don’t want the takers anymore.

Working at the Chamber for as long as I have, I see this play out all of the time. Givers Get – and gain over time. Takers Take and disappear.

These are words to live by. We live in a disgustingly selfish world, not enough people are willing to give without getting back in some way.
Stop looking for your reward in life!

That’s a hard lesson to live . Probably worse the other way though
“For it is in giving that you receive”.
However, I do hear what Trent Bennett says in the first comment above. This has become my saving motto for many years: “Be good to all men, trust a few but always paddle your own canoe.”

Excellent point on giving vs taking. Here’s a book recommendation for this subject: https://www.rjjulia.com/book/9780143124986.
