Would you hire them again?

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Recently some leaders at a company were telling me about a guy who worked for them that they didn’t seem to be happy with.  There were some arguments in his favor and some against.  You don’t really know someone until they have worked with you for six months, and this guy had been there longer than that.  They knew him, I didn’t.

How could I make an assessment based on what they were telling me?

I asked this question – “Knowing what you know now, would you hire him again?”  They answered “no”.

So I advised them to remove him right away and find a replacement.

Before you can answer the question posed you need to ask whether or not the company offered any professional development for its employees and whether or not this individual took advantage of obtaining this new knowledge of learning to grow professionally thus improvement on his part and second chance.
The other point is if this individual was at retirement age then perhaps they didnt want to give over 100 percent because they wanted out.
Finally perhaps if they left the company and developed themselves afterwards with new marketing skills that the company needed perhaps the company would rehire them.
There are always people who are against other employees to keep them at the duck level and others who are for you and will mentor you to soar like an eagle to new heights.
