Often leaders become leaders because they got promoted because they are good at what they do. The problem is that becoming a leader of others is a different job. It’s no longer doing the work, but it’s now helping your team perform the best they can individually while accomplishing the goals of the organization…
– and that’s different.
If we are to be a leader of others, we must learn to get our credit from mentoring others, instead of from doing the work like we did yesterday.
An excellent leader can have it all. Give themselves credit for job well done for themselves and the growth and vision of the organization as well training others by mentoring snd coaching them to take on leadership roles themselves. Those mentees always will give credit to their mentor for developing them to be better people in society. My first mentor was my first grade teacher who helped me to learn English after school. Years later i mentored numerous people working in universities. It is a very rewarding experience to mentor others and be mentored from others.
