In 2014 our family home was completely destroyed in a fire. Eleven days later Katherine Korik, Jessica Saldamarco, and Kellie Santiago gave me a new leather journal – empty save for one verse on the inside cover by T.S. Eliot.
“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language.
And next year’s words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.”
Indeed.
Very timely message sir. Thank you for keeping things in perspective.
Wonderful T.S. Eliot quote. Kellie is a great person! I’m sure the other two ladies are too.
I remember when we met in La Paz that you showed photos of the new house under construction, not photos of the old house lost in the fire. There is subtle wisdom there, in looking ahead to what is new and positive, instead of looking back on what is tragic, beyond your control, and in the past. You were already looking ahead to the new beginning.
They are wonderful words to pass on thanks, I will print those to put by our time clock
These sentences from Eliot are beyond brilliant.
Remember the July 4th weekend well. Amazing how one event can make or break some people. I often think how strong your family is. Was out to see the rebuild for the first time last week. Hope everything is well with you and the family.
