A product of our habits

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

First we make our habits, then our habits make us.

“The second half of a man’s life is made up of nothing but the habits he has acquired during the first half.”– Feodor Dostoevski

What do you do every day?  What are your routines?

Habits are defaults. I listened to a podcast (sorry, don’t remember which one) that talked about ‘setting your defaults’. I used this to solve a problem I had at the office with junk mail. My new default is that when I take the mail out of the PO Box, instead of coming straight to the office, I take a minute to stop at the counter in the Post Office to go through the mail, putting all of the junk mail, circulars, advertisements, catalogs and magazines right in the recycling bin. It works great. I’m trying to set my defaults in other areas of my life as well.
