Patrick Lencioni writes about “Three Dangerous Biases of CEO’s”. I think he is on point as I have either had or seen all of them.
The first is Sophistication Bias. This is a failure to embrace practical concepts they deem too simple to be difference-making. They ignore the simple in search of something more complex, innovative or intellectually clever.
They overlook things like building a functional team, over communicating key messages, or details of the customer experience. CEO’s must humble themselves to master simpler disciplines.
Do have “Sophistication Bias”?
Excellent message. This prompted me to go find the entire Lencioni article, which was excellent. Thanks for sharing.
This never happens to me— haha. All my life my frends say I over engineering things, or Dave your over thinking this.
Good one Larry,
All the best

Good one…….. I find myself making things too complex at times when its just the basics of blocking and tackling …….
I must be a simpleton… these concepts seem sophisticated to me
Keep It Simple Stupid. I work in the automotive business. We used to keep engine filters in our shop on a shelf. Now we keep them on a shelf in our new “parts barn” a quarter mile from our shop up the road. Each time we need a filter we drive a quarter mile to get a filter. Yes, this idea was implemented by the CEO. Probably not good for the environment with all the driving, too.
