If the attempt is to be successful, you must do whatever is necessary to avoid distraction.

To your point, Albert Einstein once responded to a reporter’s question of: “why do you think you are smarter than everyone else?” He said: “I don’t think I am smarter than all others, but I do believe I have the ability to stay focused on the question at hand without distraction.”

I like what I do. But I can never ever focus on one thing as much as I would like to. However, I feel my role at my company is extremely unfair. I’m absolutely swamped, overwhelmed and left to deal with things that are over my head most of the time (which I like to learn and figure things out , but on my own without training is also unfair). I am given a work load of dispatch, payroll, ordering parts, dealing with customers, invoicing, outbound scheduling of 1300 customers PER SEASON with a limited crew of technicians and on top of that answer ALL INCOMING CALLS to the entire company department. I’m told that I need to manage my time better! I’m on salary working nights and sometimes entire weekends from home trying to get it all done. It’s ruining my personal life because I now have none. It’s making me an absent parent and it’s mentally exhausting. So what do I do ?

Hi Larry,
Reading your posts for about 5 years has enhanced my life—thank you for that! In this post you refer to the brain. I think it’s the mind that needs focusing because I don’t think the brain is any more sentient than the liver or your elbow. I noted that you read all comments which is why I decided to comment. I don’t do any social media but I am willing to communicate—your posts are very sane and something I enjoy every morning.
