"Important Work"

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Here is a quote from Joseph Heller’s 1950s novel, Catch 22 – “While none of the work we do is very important, it is important we do a great deal of it.”

Even if we think we are self-disciplined and hard working, we can all ask ourselves, “Am I doing the right things when I work?” “Am I going in the right direction?” “Why am I doing this again?”

Go ahead; ask.

This is a great question. When I plan each day I always try to focus on the three things that are most important to get done for that day. After those are completed, I can dig into the other things on the TTD list. Sometimes I’ll go through the cycle repeatedly in one day (top three things) in order to make sure I am getting as many as possible of the right things done. Fortunately I have a great team that I can hand things off to when needed.

By the way, I disagree with Joseph Heller’s assessment that none of the work we do is very important – but not having read the book I may be taking it out of context.
