Critics, or valuable feedback?

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

If people that don’t like you are saying it, ignore it.

If people that are full of envy and jealousy are saying it, ignore them too.

If people who have no clue and don’t know what they are talking about are saying it, ignore them too.

If a person who criticizes all the time says it, pay little attention.

If people you respect say it, listen.

If good people who are normally quiet are saying it, listen.

If many quality people are saying it, you probably should have been listening a long time ago.

I have found that in many cases, (but not every case) even harsh/petty/unfair critics have at least a thread of truth in their feedback. If I allow myself to get offended by their over-the-top conduct, I will likely miss out on the opportunity to hear what I need to hear from them.

I really needed to hear this today;just got a lot of “constructive criticism” from an employee that I just had to let go. Trying to find the constructive to learn from, but mostly it was just criticism.
