Wisdom tells us not to drink with the people we lead. (This may be different than having “a drink” with them.) For if we do, we become one of them and are no longer their leader.
Say dumb things? Act stupid? Run your mouth?
Just don’t do it.

Excellent advice!
I don’t drink, but it’s a great suggestion nonetheless. Sometimes , even without alcohol, we relax in the company of others and become a little too comfortable, saying things we ought not. Keeping one’s guard up a little at all times is good.
Great nuance, great point! Having a drink makes you a relatable human. Drinking with them is… different!

Indeed!

Drinking at any business affair is not a good idea. I do not drink, but I have witnessed on many occasions people that do. I have also had the unfortunate opportunity to see some of them lose their job because of a loose tongue. It is never a good idea to mix business with booze if you are a leader or an employee.
And good leaders eat last. Show your EE’s that they come before you and they will put you before them.
Whichever way you lead they will follow. If it is to a higher moral standard, or to light mindedness, or if it is to continuous improvement, or towards drunkedness… It is never to late to correct an example that we regret setting.
