Purple Heart

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Who in your business stepped out of the box, went out on a limb, and risked their job, or at least the good favor of other people in the organization, to point out how things aren’t going right? Who had the audacity to say the Emperor had no clothes and paid a price for it?

Let’s celebrate these who were wounded by trying to look out for all of us in the organization. Perhaps a Purple Heart Award at the next meeting is in order.

This can be a very difficult thing to do, but you have to “care enough to confront.” This applies at work and in your personal life as well. Conflict isn’t easy, especially when those whom you are challenging may control your career or family situation. Think carefully and make sure you do it in a constructive way, but do it!

Did it often constructively and it was often met in a positive way and lead to some huge opportunities for that company. Sometimes it did not go that well either. Better to choose your spots and timing wisely before presenting something . I would rather have people on my team who would be fearless and not afraid to mention something if it would help the team

Some training exercises with the intent of helping end up using up valuable resources instead. Organizations should always first conduct an analysis to find out what or who exactly is the problem and what are the desired outcomes and measurements that need to be taken to promote development and not internal conflict.
