Autonomous Vehicles and You

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Imagine a driverless car coming to pick you up because you don’t own a car. Imagine your servicemen catching up on phone calls, computer work, and eating lunch while their self driving truck brings them to the next customers home. Imagine a guy without a drivers license or someone who is sight impaired working on one of your delivery routes.  It’s all coming – soon.

Tesla says all it’s vehicles will be autonomous this year.  Google will deploy a semi-autonomous version of the Chrysler Pacifica minivan this year.  A self driving 18 wheeler has already delivered 50,000 cans of Budweiser.  In Pittsburgh a self driving Uber car with no driver, has already picked up passengers and delivered them safely to where they wanted to go.

How could this affect your business?

David Neilson

I think this will take 5-10 years before this affects the average business and their daily operations. It would be nice if it could help decrease insurance costs, congestion and other problems associated with daily driving. I had an expression years ago that would say. Why drive to work when you can be driven! I guess I was 20 years ahead with my thinking. The only major drawback I see to this is the human error component as to telling the vehicles where to go. Someone can still make that mistake causing delays and confusion. Not a deal breaker by any means, most problems are solvable.

I think this is what evolution looks like. This can have a positive impact on the future. Someone has to develop the technology/programs, teach and train others how to use it, etc. Technology is a good thing. Each new technological advance made is an opportunity for someone else to build on. Instead of being worried, make these changes work for you. If robotics are the future, learn to work within those parameters. First it was computers and we all turned out just fine 🙂 Just look at all of the great things that came of them.

This is great ! Now all of the non drivers can drink the Budweiser without worry if getting an impaired or causing an accident ?

Ax Torres

All Tesla vehicles are already built with autonomous hardware, they just need the software uploaded to run according to Elon. I can see techs and salespeople getting more job notes in, following up on customer calls and being able to take those lunches more efficiently. This is an exciting time to be alive and in business!

Imagine autonomous driving plus self-charging on-board electric – wow!

Kurtis K

Within 5 years – tops – autonomous will be everywhere. Soon after several entities will push to limit who can drive on what road with the “old” human driven machines (because those drivers will present a very clear danger to the autonomous travelers). But then the real advancement in travel will solve all this as we utilize drones to fly where we want to go.

Transporting the human being quickly and safely is the next revolution.

Andrea

I am aware of the changes that are comming but I try to tune out to prevent thinking about their consequences because I want to enjoy the present moment and its beauty. The matrix becomes a sad place if there is no or too much imagination.
