Fixing your spouse

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Do I have your attention?  (We talk about nearly everything on Think Daily!)

Fixing your spouse?  It’s not going to happen, and trying is not going to make for a happy relationship.

Consider this – you are the problem.  Your failure to accept them unconditionally is the problem.  The gap you have created in your mind about who they should be compared to who they are is often the real issue.

You can only change yourself.  When we stop saying “yeah but” and “you don’t understand” and take responsibility for the way it is, then we can make progress towards a happier closer relationship.

Great Blog Thought Today. I read the same book.. On the airplane, in an emergency the instructions sound something like this: “In the case of an emergency, put the mask on yourself first, then give help to the one traveling with you if they cannot help themselves..” Scripture says: How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. – Luke 6:42. ONCE WE HONESTLY BEGIN WORKING TO ‘FIX’ OURSELVES, MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, WE CAN BE USEFUL TO HELP OTHERS SEE THEIR PATHWAY THROUGH THE LENS OF OUR TRANSPARENCY…..

Very meaningful thought – truly hits the heart of what matters most in successful relationships. Just celebrated my 16th wedding anniversary in October – today’s thought is why (and more my wife’s ability to accept me unconditionally!).

Keep them coming Larry, incredibly powerful & much appreciated – thanks. -David

I spent the first few years of my marriage trying to change my wife until I slowly realize it was not her that had the issues and needed to change. 26 years later I am thankful she did not kick the knucklehead she married to the curb, I certainly gave her reason to. No I see her for the amazing person she it.
Great thought Larry.

Larry, the joy of seeing you and Wendy smiling through life is the best encouragement! No relationship can teach us more about teamwork than the person we commit to in marriage. Hope you two have a great day, look forward to seeing you soon. Clint

Your spouse should be your best friend and partner. There should be nothing more important in life to both you than maintaining that relationship. Do not forget the words “yes Dear whatever you want is ok with me. “!
It has worked great for 44 years so far!

I tried fixing my spouse many times and I also tried adopting until I had the courage to admit that we are different and like different things, which is ok, as long as you can connect on an intellectual level and find common hobbies. If one feels there is a lack of understanding, it means that there is a lack of understanding. Not listening to your own inner voice creates a tool out of you and your spouse. No one is perfect.
