Should we aspire to be dependent?

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

If children do not grow up with character, discipline, and examples of positive ambition around them, it will be very difficult for them to thrive as productive self-actualized independent adults.

What can you show or tell children that will become a productive part of who they become?

Edward Mwelwa

As parents and gurdians, we are the first line of defense in shielding our children or dependants from so much “destruction” around us to ensure they grow up into responsible and productive individuals.

Jane Miller

Our job is to build strong, self-reliant individuals to carry on the productive work of the future. It is a delicate process that must be handled with wisdom and virtue, knowing when to protect and when to allow the consequences of reality to play out. Constant and continuous protection only produces weak individuals, with no internal resources or strength to draw from. Individuals growing up with no sense of the normal ups and downs that life hands us can find themselves in self-destructive behavior. Yet trust is an essential part of human development, and comes first in the parent/child relationship. Children must then learn to trust in their own strength and ability to take care of themselves through the tempest that is life.
