In a small business you are the leader of the marketing. You are the leader of sales. You are the leader of finance, and strategy, and the team, and training, and production.
Your job is to grow your business by making yourself obsolete. Get a leader of marketing who does it better than you do or can with your limited time for the job. Then get a leader of sales. Then finance and production. Keep replacing yourself with people who are smarter or better than you are in that area.
Don’t worry. You’re more likely to be out of a job by NOT replacing yourself than by doing so.
Which part of you needs to be replaced most right now?
For me, that hit right at home 😉
I’m posting this on my wall, to remind myself daily this is what it takes to build and grow….
Larry, This hits home at Ayers! We were terrified take that first step…..
The critical point, the “tipping point” if you will, is getting your own mind around this idea. If you make the decision to replace yourself, that in and of itself defines that you have leadership skills and people will want to follow you because you just became a leader.
I look at the largest dealers in our network and realize what a small cog in the machine the people I seek to emulate have become. They are constantly growing out of their current positions or if the rarest issue comes up, they have the time and resources to solve that issue.
Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Good tip. I definitely need to start thinking more like this.
